Basell's Licensing Business
Basell’s Licensing business commercialises the know-how of Basell’s proprietary process technologies and polyolefin products by selling licenses
to investors - enabling them to construct and operate new PP and/or PE production lines and to sell the respective products globally.
Our process technology licensing portfolio consists of Spherizone and Spheripol technologies for PP production, and Hostalen, Spherilene and Lupotech T technologies for the various types of PE products. In addition Basell offers Metocene PP technology, which is a modular package including
a single-site catalyst system, that is compatible with different PP process technologies for the manufacture of specialty PP products. Basell has licensed more than 200 lines based on these process technologies, making it the most successful polyolefin technology licensor in the industry.
While in the first decades of the polyolefins industry the majority of licenses were granted to Europe and North America, since the 1990’s most of the new investments are being established in the Middle East as the region with the most advantaged, low-cost feedstock, and in market-growth regions including China, India, Russia and South America.
